History of Chain Reaction
Chain Reaction SDC was formed in 2003 when a small group of ‘A’ dancers, having nowhere local to dance,
looked into the possibility of starting a club. A good base was found in Samlesbury Memorial Hall near Preston.
Being so close to the M6 motorway meant it was easy for people to get to, would have a good catchment area
as well as offering an excellent dance space. Jim Rowland then agreed to help organise the club as well as call for it,
despite having to drive from Barnsley to do so. Jim also brought along a trainee caller – Di Green – who noticeably
grew in confidence from week to week.
The good humour and fun this singing duo brought to the sessions meant that the club quickly attracted visitors and our membership steadily grew. When Jim eventually decided to retire, his legacy to the club was Di - a wonderful caller and teacher who has since taken the club from strength to strength, teaching and calling A1, A2 and C1. We are very lucky to have her and are very proud of her success. We have very enthusiastic members who support each other and the club, enjoy dancing and create a fun atmosphere - visitors always comment on how friendly the club is so do call in if you are ever in the area.
